Great site .I was at McMurdo 77-78 loved watching the Polar Star doing her thing.I have in my posseion one very old and battered Rothco lighter' looks just like a Zippo but made in Japan. It has the Operation Deep Freeze badge with the words {THE MIGHTY G. enscribbed on the flip lid. On the back is an etching of the Glacier with USS GLACIER AGB-4 enscribbed Does anyone out there think that this lighter could have been theirs? I know that as we all get older these little keepsakes become more sacred, and I would like it to go to someone that it means something too.

After all these years coming across this web -site was great! I had the pleasure of serving on her last 2 DF'S AND The DECOM crew.I spent alot of time working on the ASB now dubbed the ''Icebucket''.My last job on her was the FOWK. Spent lots of time tranfering fuel to keep her on a even keel!I also have the distingtion of being the last person advanced to ''Chiefs Mess'' It was a great tour and a good crew! I look forward to joining this Society. Thanks for all the hard work and happy memories.''Follow me''

Good Luck Glacier!!!! From the Live-Aboard crew of the Was onboard for DF 80. It was the year we lost the LCVP. Capt. Little was CO and we had a blast in Wellington. I would like to do it all over again.

ON board for 3 Operation Deepfreeze 63, 64 and 65. Worked in the Radio Shack and have many wonderful memories. Was on board the first time we took the ship right to the shoreline at McMurdo Sound. Will never ever forget a couple of trips between NZ and McMurdo. Best of luck and I will be getting involved in the project. TD

I was a member of the first Coast Guard commissioning crew that boarded in Boston, MA. After a coat of white paint we headed for Long Beach, CA and Operation Deepfreeze '67. I still have and treasure all my patches, pictures and shellback certificates from the voyage. It's great to see that the Glacier is being restored.

I alwoys wondered what happened to the Glacier. I made two trips south and one north. Was onboard in 1975 when we broke two boades off the stbd propeller in Wddell Sea and almost had to winter over. Worked as MK3 in B-2 Engineroom... Those two years afforded a lifetime of experiences. What an adventure!

Love the site, served aboard GLACIER for Deep Freeze "81" the year we lost our anchore at Fanning Island. On the first capstan on the bow thier is a gouge when the anchore chain broke free and whipped around, it was also the year that women were allowed on a cruise. I will always remember the Glacier she was my first assignment out of bootcamp. Thank you again

Great Site- good luck with it. Rode the Glacier on its first trip to the Antarctic in 55. Was a member of Mobile Construction Battalion Special, Advance Survey Party.Having served on DDs,DMS' and DE's they were cruise liners when compared with that rocking, rolling, "cork" called the Glacier ! Was an exciting ship to be on, sure got your "sea legs" fast. I contend it rocked and rolled as we passed thru the P Canal !. I left the Glacier at Little America 5 in late Dec 55 and wintered 56 at LA 5. That was a good crew on the lst Ant cruise and they treated us CBs royally.
