This
is to acknowledge the safe arrival two days ago of two packages
of Glacier Society flyers, dispatched by you in November, including
a complete membership kit. We are making these available to the
many tourists who visit us and very much hope that the end result
will be a positive contribution to the Glacier Society. The flyers
have been stamped with the Port Lockroy base stamp, so you will
have a record of membership applications originating from us
Contrary
to the dire predictions in the press, there does not appear to have
been a significant decline in the number of tourists visiting the
Antarctic, at any rate after our first month of operation
Of
the staff of three at Port Lockroy during the southern summer, two
of us are ex-Stonington expeditioners, so we are extremely interested
in the Glacier project, and wish it every possible success. The
ultimate dream would be to use Glacier for the restoration of the
American and British bases on Stonington Island as a private project
without government interference!
Thank
you very much for your prompt response to my request for the flyers.
Sincerely,
Kenn
