It
is with regret to announce the passing of JERRY GLENN HUGHES
who for several years was the official photographer for the Glacier
Society. Mr. Hughes, a Naval photographer, was stationed aboard
the USS GLACIER during OPERATION DEEP FREEZE and was an assistant
WHITE HOUSE photographer. After his Naval career, he graduated from
the Rochester Institute with a degree in optics and was employed
by ITEK and LOCKHEED in the top-secret world of photo satellites.
He was a world traveler and deep ocean sailor. May he rest in Peace...
With
deep regret I pass this message along. Jerry was one of the several
Glacier Crew who led the initial campaign to "Save the Glacier"
with Jim Tinch and Jerry Seeney. We will miss him terribly! He worked
alongside myself and the other volunteers with dedication and kindred
spirit. He most graciously invited the East Coast Team to his home
on one of the extended visits to San Francisco. His lovely wife
Martie was always nearby, a great cook!
